I do NOT know how the pioneers made it in Southern Utah back in the days of NO AIR CONDITIONING!!! Good hell! I about died, and we had FANS!! I am definately born in the right day and age! Those were some strong people to live back then!! And the women in their bonnets and layered hoop skirts and dresses!! NO THANK YOU! I'll gladly take my air conditioning and popsicles!! Thanks!

I'm MELTING!!!!!

So...Rob called me yesterday while I was at work still and said, "I just got home....the air conditioner is not working". "oh, well that sounds like fun!" I said. When I got home it felt like an oven. The landlord said they'd have someone come look at it. In the meantime they said to go on the roof and check the swamp cooler, that should still work. We had no idea what we were doing, so thankfully my step dad came over to look at it. We just needed a quick fix, but he was all about giving it a full make over. Well, come to find out, the pump on it is shot. The guy came by to look at the AC and while he was tinkering with it, freon started leaking out. Rob tried to close up the house in time, but we had already started inhaling it. He said that he'd have to order a part...the compressor was shot. We decided to find somewhere with AC to grab some food. We went to Wendy's. As we were driving there I still felt lightheaded and weirded out from the freon, as we pulled up I could have sworn there was a guy with a Storm Trooper mask on...nope, just a white hat with sunglasses on it. Then we went inside and the cashier was seriously cracked out and talking about his wife and wedding ring, which I think were both imaginary. He kept coming by us while we were eating and saying things we didn't understand. He was kind of mumbling, "hiey fouwn somdose shoshoshosho awooowwwhe doby thawibberhanc". Yeah, can't help you buddy, no clue what you're saying. :P Then I didn't understand Rob's joke about the phone number 867-5309, I said, "Who's number is that??"....(Yeah, if you didn't get it, go back and sing it.) Needless to say, we were all a little cracked out. The house finally started to cool down at like 2 a.m. since we had all the fans blowing and had ran the sprinklers to cool the lawn, and opened windows when the sun wasn't hitting them anymore. the 92 degrees that it was at bed time made it a little hard to fall asleep. And now the part to fix it wont be here until tomorrow...so another night of the HOT AND HEAVY!! Maybe I'll go outside if it is cooler out there and huff some freon.... heehee jk.

Timing...
Wow...
I received some news that made me sad. If you read my blog in May titled "Teachers" you know that I had found my 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Lee Vanmoerkerque, whom I've held near and dear to my heart since I was 11. I received an email from her son the other night to inform me that Mrs. Lee had passed away last week. That hit me pretty hard. When I told Rob, he said that when he had spoken to her (when I was on the phone with her one time, she asked to speak with him, so she could "meet" him) she had told him that she was very ill and wasn't going to live much longer. She made him promise not to tell me, since it was close to the wedding, she didn't want me to be sad. Also, when she had called Rob's mom to get my phone number, she had told her that she had Cancer, and didn't have long to live, and also asked her to not tell me. I can understand her not wanting me to be sad after being so excited that I had just found her. I had gotten some earrings for her in Mexico on my honeymoon, and hadn't sent them to her yet. I looked back on my "Teachers" blog before starting this one and saw that there was a new comment from last week on the blog from a woman telling me that Mrs. Lee had passed. I guess at least, I can say that I was able to find her and tell her how much I appreciated her, and how much she meant to me. I am very grateful for that.
Mrs. Lee...I will miss you. You are an amazing person and I am so glad I got to meet you and then find you again after 17 years. Thank you for teaching me more than any teacher ever had.

Been busy
Its been a while since I blogged, so I figured I better get on it. I changed positions at my work, so I've been working like crazy trying to figure out what I am doing! Also, we moved from an apartment into a house we're renting, so between the moving and unpacking, and not having internet for a while, I figure that's all good excuses, right?
We've been trying to get out to the lake more, too. Rob finally was able to wakeboard for the first time this summer. Poor guy, he's been so anxious to go, and I know he wishes he could go every day. I face planted so hard last year, that I've been so chicken since then to go much, or even cross the wake. I haven't gone this summer yet, I've been waiting for the water to warm up. I'll be SO SORE when I finally go!
There's been a lot of running around going on, and hopefully life will calm down a little for us.
A few weeks ago we found out that my step-dad's mom has cancer. That was kind of a shocker for us all. We're just hoping that the surgery did a lot of good, and that chemo will take care of the rest. It makes you realize even more that you need to let people know how you feel about them before its too late.
I also found out something the other day about my grandpa, who passed away about 7 years ago. He was in a care center for a few years before he passed away, and unfortunately I only got to see him twice in that time. It was hard to see him, because he had Alzheimer's and I couldn't understand him when he tried to talk to me. The only thing I understood was when I said, "I love you" he said, "I love you too". That meant a lot to me. Well, my cousin told us that some staff would steal from my grandpa at the care center. That really hit me and bothered me a lot! Maybe a lot of it is because I now work at a care center and I can't imagine someone doing that to one of our residents. It doesn't matter if they know what's going on or not. Now I know how the family would feel. I felt so upset. A few weeks ago I said to Rob, "I wonder if my grandpa was someone's favorite resident", because I have a few favorites. And Rob said, "I know he was." Rob's so sweet. And although some of the staff weren't respectful, I sure hope that he was someone's favorite.

in the end....
My cousin wrote a post that got me thinking. It really is important to let the people around you know how you feel about them, because you never know if it is the last time you'll see them in this life. I work at a care center, and I have grown to love the people there. Yes, I do have a small handful of favorites. One of them passed away friday. We were all pretty shocked because he was only 62. He's been at the care center for about 5 months. He quickly formed the habit of coming to my office EVERY morning to say hi and see how I was doing (unfortunately it was after he had been a witness of a VERY bad day for me (see post from Feb 22nd "Dang it")
He was such a nice guy, and I looked forward to his daily visits. When I got to work on monday this week, I hadn't heard that he had passed. All I knew is that he went to the ICU on friday. I went down to his room to see how he was, if he was back. I was stopped at his door by Darrick, my co-worker. He had a nervous look on his face. He knew this guy was one of my favorites. He told me that he had passed away on friday. WOW. Not what I expected to hear. It was hard. A couple of my co-workers asked if I was ok, and said "the first is the hardest, not that it gets a whole lot easier, but this is hard". One of my other favorites, was his friend. So I had to check on him. Around noon, I caught him in the hall. He said, "How can someone be there one minute, and then the next, be gone?" I didnt know what to tell him. All I can say is now this wonderful man is in heaven, able to do the things he could no longer do easily here. He's with family who've gone before him....fishing...and listening to Lynard Skynard and the Eagles. Good-bye...since I wasn't able to say it before!
